On October 31 2024, HF & VUC FYN hosted the EASY final event. The event was attended by 18 people.
The topic of stereotypes and discrimination on the basis of age, gender and ethnicity – and of discrimination in general – was considered very relevant by the participants. Even though they may not experience overt stereotyping and discrimination in their classes, it is something everyone – knowingly or unknowingly – witnesses in society and everyday life. The adult educators could see how EASY can fit into the curriculum of classes in social studies, history, religion, English and psychology and that the EASY material will make discussions easier.
The most interesting part of the event and of EASY in general for the participants was the Films and Comics Catalogue and the activities. The participants liked the use of films and comics to talk about a sensitive topic like stereotypes and discrimination. Using films and comics makes it less personal and less sensitive to address these issues. The participants also liked the activities because they can be used in a lot of different ways, and you can adapt them to both what class and topic you are teaching and to the learners as well. The participants also liked the simplicity involved in using the activities; they are low tech and you can simply print them and use them straight away or you can adapt the activities to suit your needs.
