The Oxford Debate is a structured, formal debating format that involves two opposing sides arguing for and against a specific thesis or topic. Each side, typically composed of several participants, presents their arguments in a series of structured speeches, adhering to strict time limits and rules of conduct. The debate is overseen by a moderator or panel, who ensure that the debate stays on topic and that the rules are followed. The audience, often consisting of other participants or observers, may have the opportunity to vote on the thesis before and after the debate, allowing for an assessment of how persuasive each side’s arguments were
The competition invites learners to delve into the world of a specific character from a chosen movie. Participants select a character they find compelling and use a set of guiding questions to explore deeper dimensions of the character’s experiences and choices. Learners have the flexibility to write in either the first person, adopting the character’s voice for storytelling, or the third person, creating an observational scenario.
