The students have to make new versions of comics by filling in speech bubbles where the text has been deleted. They are handed a version of the comics with part of – or the entire dialogue deleted. They must then make their own version of the dialogue, keeping in mind that the comics deal with stereotypes. The purpose of this activity is to make the students reflect upon stereotypes.
The students have to make their own comic strip, either by drawing it by hand or by creating it with an online comic maker. Before this part of the activity – and to get the students into the right mindset – they must identify stereotypes in existing comics. Based on a brainstorm and categorization of stereotypes, the students proceed to make their own comics.
The students have to write a story about a person they know who fits the stereotype in the comics. After finishing their stories, the students present them to the class and the class categorizes and discusses the stereotypes present in the stories.
