This is an activity that may be performed either as project by the trainees or as an evaluation activity at the end of a thematic unit.
Here is presented a suggested approach of the activity as an individual or a group in class project where trainees are invited individually or in groups to select and respond to three of the activities described in the grid that have to be in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row on the grid.
This is an engaging and effective method in order to teach about equal pay rights through higher a order thinking approach. Students are provided with comic strips and are then invited through the combination of a creative process with the critical thinking required to understand and communicate about equal pay rights, to be engaged and involved in a meaningful learning experience.
The learners are presented with the case of Garcia who has decided to seek compensation for being underpaid in comparison to her male counterparts. She has initiated legal proceedings against her employer.
The learners are invited to work in groups to prepare the speech of Prosecutor/ Attorney General who must take a position and suggest a verdict before the audience. So the learners must propose and justify their proposed decision to the jury.
Focusing on the jury’s role in a trial concerning gender pay disparity, the trainees will place their focus on emphasizing the decision-making process as they are asked to demonstrate fairness in decision-making, mirroring how society should approach issues of gender bias and pay equity.
